[Typo3] Resolving parsed links from within sub templates

you have to make it relative from the directory in fileadmin which 
"holds" your master.html.

so if your master is in
fileadmin/template/main/master.html

and if your gif is in
fileadmin/template/sub/img/image.gif

you have to go ../sub/img/image.gif
