[Typo3] 600 pages / content records?

I would suggest to create an extension with:
-Frontend Plugin for browsing
-Backend Web-Module for managing

I would place all book in a database table, same for authors. I would not use the basis functionality of Typo3 but create you're own BE module. You can customize it completely which is quite usefull when adding many records. You could also do more with the data in the future without having to move the data or something. 

I would advise also to place all the records in a sysfolder which makes it also possible to use them very easy in other extensions. Or when needed in the normal Typo3 backend-way.
