[Typo3] 600 pages / content records?

Hi
One of my clients has a website with books and authors database. There 
are 600 books and 400 authors in the database with new added every week. 
On the FE side people will be using a combination of search and browse 
features to find what they are looking for.

My job is to move this site to Typo3. I was looking through available 
extensions but didn't find anything close to what I need. I will 
probably have to build my own extension but I but I still havent't 
figured out how to organize these records in the BE...

Having 600 subpages under "books" seems fairly easy but I don't think 
it's the best approach. I thought about using tt_news and have 600 
content objects in one page with different ways to search/browse the 
subpages. But the BE user will still have a hard time finding and 
editing appropriate record...

Is there anything I should base my system on? Any tips/experiences will 
be very appreciated :-)
