[Typo3] CMW Linklist, after upgrade, links not displaying

Hi,

I had an older version of CMW Linklist, tried to upgrade to 1.5.0 from
typo3 server

for whatever reason, neither upgrade nor unistall would work, it kept
telling 'cannot remove directories/delete files'

eventually, I manually deleted the old directory, then, installed the new CMW

now, in FE, the existing links no longer display
in BE list view, the links are there OK

what am I missing ?
