[Typo3] tt_products CODE=LIST problem

HI!
I am trying to built a shop but I'm having trouble understanding which 
marker goes where. I took the ITEM_LIST_TEMPLATE marker from the tmlp file 
of the extension and placed it into my html file on which I have built my 
shop. I've defined the products and the categories and defined on each page 
a shop plugin with the list code, but besides the header of the page doesn't 
show anything.
Can anyone tell me where I went wrong?
