The TYPO3 association led by Kasper Skårhøj has decided to sell the copyright of the popluar CMS project to Microsoft. Everything published so far under GPL will stay that way, but all upcoming development, inlcluding the soon to be published version 3.8.0, will be under a new license, which is yet to be verified.

Leading developers has signed a contract with the new owners stating that they will not continue the development of TYPO3 under any open source license.

TYPO3 is to be merged with existing CMS software from Microsoft (see
www.microsoft.com/cmserver/default.aspx) and to be ported to the .net platform.

Microsoft intents to buy the rigths of a number of popular extensions as well.

More information as well as an official statement from chief developer Kasper Skårhøj will be announced within the next week.
