Hi,

> please don't, we are not microsoft or ibm.
> an open source project should be clear in versioning and not confuse
> users with strange names (think e.g. about mozilla, moving step by step
> forward, but still sticking at 1.7b).

many OSS-Projects have codenames, the linux kernel, the open ticket
request system...
Why not, an open source system should not only provide a software
packages, the tagging of release with creative codenames is a nice
way for steps.

kasper, shouldn't you know many cigar labels??? ;)

for version numbering why don't use the linux kernel format.

2.x.1... for
x => odd numbers for devel branches, the others for the stable

so it is possible to release quite often devel-releases between to
stable releases.

greetings sven
