Hi Dan,

as a flash and php developer I would love to see flash in use for the RTE editor for non MSIE browsers, but there are still some problems:

1. flash doesn't support style sheets yet (but it will in Flash Player 7, which is currently in beta)
2. it doesn't support tags in textfields. this will also come with flash player 7, but will only support left or right align. And there is only support for nonprogressive jpgs and swf.

3. AMFPHP is really very comfortable, but even though flash supports unicode, AMFPHP still has problems with certain characters. I made a little test and all german ä, ö, ü, etc. weren't interpreted right.

So right now I think Flash isn't a option for the alternative RTE, but with Flash 7 and a more stable release of AMFPHP, it would be definitly worth a try.

have a nice day

Hi folks!

Just a silly idea, but might be worth a thought. How about using FLASH
for implementation of a RTE? There are already some solutions around.
(Look at www.flashkit.com or one of the other flash-sites).

And by using AMFPHP (www.amfphp.org) you can even simply communicate
with TYPO3 (flash remoting re-done in PHP, works like a charm, is open
source). So sending and receiving data should not be the problem. Flash
Remoting uses http-requests, so no firewall-problems, either...

Flash has the advantage that it runs on almost every browser you get a
plugin for (except opera, which does not support binary posts from flash
and therefore does not support flash remoting).

I know, flash is kinda horrible from a programmers point of view (I
hated it, too), but I came to like it...

Cheerio, Dan.
