There is a big difference between de pagetree (in modules such as Page, 
List) and the filetree in the Filelist module.

In the pagetree you have pages, (sys)folders, separators, shortcuts, and 
so on. In folders in the pagetree you can store records such as news items.

In the filtree you have directories and files.

Which of the two are you trying to read, what kind of items do you 
exactly want to select and what are you trying to do with which properties?

If you describe exactly what you need to do with what kind of items then 
it's easier for others to point you in the right direction.
Perhaps you can make some screenshots, draw on it where you find the 
objects you want to access, upload the images to some server on the web 
and put links to them in your post.
