blank page = error in php with configuration not to display errors.

so look into your apache error log.
or enable errormessages in the install-tool, which you can start stand 
alone as <domain>.<tld>/typo3/install/index.php

keep in mind: you need the file typo3conf/ENABLE_INSTALL_TOOL and the 
password, stored as hash in typo3conf/LocalConfiguration.php
