In general solving a problem once instead of several times is a smart idea.

For the example of t3apicompat in the wiki, you solved a problem which 
has been solved in TYPO3 core already ;)

t3lib_extMgm::addStaticFile($extKey, $path, $title);

Works in 4.5 along until 6.2 (current master) so no need for a wrapper 
method for this and similar class methods.
