The only feedback I can give so far is that for the first step I also 
think the core should provide categories-activation for all 
system-records which are used in every days life of an editor. I think 
an integrator shouldn't be forced to install an extension like "media" 
(which btw seems to be very cool :) or to extend the TCA and so on to be 
able to use the categories for the "base records" shipped with T3.

This looks promising :) I think it's a good idea to provide an already 
known behavoir for the several actions (create, edit etc)

Let me know if that goes in the direction of your needs. We could

I currently don't need such a complex backend-modul as I only deal with 
files. But in general this modul would be very helpful of course if you 
use the categories for different record-types.

Regarding the "join forces": I don't have the knowledge to jump into 
this project but at T3DD10(?) Joe Hasenau also wanted to develop the 
taxonomy-thing. So you should get in contact with him if you're not 
already in contact regarding this subject.

Yes, this is kind of what I have in mind. And for the different content 
elements an content objects (file list, sitemap, RECORDS, CONTENT etc.) 
there could be an option (within the backend and via TS) to only show 
records of certain categories.
