imho this isn't fully right.

To get an correct output you should always:

1) Get the original record (live-workspace, lang=0)
2) Perform the workspace overlay for that
3) Get the translation - based on 2) and 3)
4) Perform the workspace overlay for that as well

And to be fully correct, the "lang=0" restriction here is a bit too hard 
- in the first step you should also retrieve all elements within your 
language which have no localisation parent record (indicated by the 
transOrigPointerField).
