I've pushed a patch to review.typo3.org so the exception class is found 
and a real error message is thrown. For upgraders, this behaviour is now 
documented at 
http://wiki.typo3.org/Caching_framework#Possible_upgrade_issues to hint 
administrators about the borked setup.
