True, analysing everything is very complicated and is also not worth the 
trouble to make such an analysing editor.

If it's easy to edit the file then I don't feel it's needed to have the 
option in the Configuration tool to write it to extTables.php .

If an admin knows what each setting means and knows which values are 
useful (s)he will also know where to find the file. Maybe it would be 
more useful to only show the location of the file and keep the old copy 
functionality.
Also, editing a file means that it is also easier to remember how to 
revert the changes. It's harder when you can make a setting in the 
backend and have to edit a file to revert it.

Then again, it's just an opinion...
