You can, but you will have to render the field yourself. So just select 
the records from the tables you want to create relations to, render a 
select field or something similar. and save them in your task object.

It's true that you can't rely on TCEforms for rendering the field nicely 
as you would expect when working "normally" in the BE. At the moment 
this is not possible due to the monolithic nature of TCEforms. Maybe it 
could become possible when the refactoring of TCEforms is complete.
