But utf-8 is strictly speaking not a charset, but an encoding of Unicde (which is the charset).

As Unicode incorporates all other charsets it most have others reasons than missing glyphs. But
remember we used also iso-8859-1 long after utf-8 existed. I see no problem using a specialised
charset/encoding if I have no need for internationalized content.
