I totaly agree. The current behavior leads to page duplicates in many 
situations - which is very unfortunate in terms of SEO.

Beside the fact that IMHO this should definitely be corrected in core, I 
am currently testing an extension that changes this behavior:
http://typo3.org/extensions/repository/view/sms_directshortcuts/current/

During my tests in two rather large systems (including complex 
multilanguage situations) it performed flawlessly.
