Hi,

i accept your opinions, but it's too late for 4.5 now as we already 
decided inclusion with RM team some months ago. Reason is that this is 
an essential function that should be part of the core. We check refindex 
in DB check, so we also should check broken links.

Anyway, ext is lightweight, and you are not forced to use it if you dislike.
