Mainly because Drupal and Joomla was thinking donation and economical
contribution from the first day.
I don't say TYPO3 hasn't, but a bit hidden "feature" until this spring.
And yes, some of us would say that channels & efforts "has" been
missing. The correct word is has, a real fundraising project is
initiated, and as far as I know the money for the startup of this
project is raised. So the future could change.
But it's not only about money, it's also about motivation. I think that
was one of the important point both in Stefan Ritter's first post and
Dmitry's reply. When people submit patches to core list and they don't
get any feedback, or only negative feedback it's going to demotivate people.
