[TYPO3-dev] What is the purpose of sysexts?

Hi Niels,

nice questions.

For me sysexts have the purpose to enrich the core with functionality 
like a login extension or the integration of gabriel as sysext.

Some other points
- It wouldn't make sense to include those things directly into the core.
- The functionality is not needed by everybody (like be usergroups) and 
so it can be enabled if needed.

I don't have a problem with the cycles because there is always trunk 
available.
