Maybe unit testing comes in handy here?
I could supply the environment with an Oracle, a MSSQL server, MySQL (of 
course) and a PGSQL (do we need more than the latest version? not too 
much of a PG guy) database that could serve for unit tests.

I'm not too sure about what tests to perform though.
