Hi Olly,

i beg your pardon, but line 63 in init.php is very clear:
if (version_compare(phpversion(), '5.1', '<'))	die ('TYPO3 requires PHP
5.1.0 or higher.');

So, TYPO3 4.2 requires at least PHP 5.1.0
