-1. It is hiding symptoms instead of curing the problem.

If extension is obtained from TER, its info most likely will be ok. If not, developer either used a 3rd party library, or he did not bother clicking "Update information in ext_emconf.php", which he should always do.

Clients has all rights to know how things are going. And they can always ask questions if necessary. This is just fare.
