[TYPO3-dev] Uniqueness of page aliases

Hi,
as far as I know there is no way around aliases being unique across the
site. Now, I understand that this was necessary when people used the
aliases as unique ids (be it for "static page" URLs or as a replacement
for the numeric id). However, today a lot of people would use RealURL
or CoolURI and the uniqueness of aliases seems to have lost its
significance. In fact, it would be great if it was possible to have
same aliases in different subtrees. As an example where this might come
in handy, I would like to refer to a site I set up. It is multilingual
with a multi-tree approach. Now, I need the site to be multi-tree
because the contents of the language sections. But at the same time,
there are overlaps where I would like to have the URLs follow the same
pattern. Let's say I would like
e.g. /en/contact_us.html, /de/contact_us.html, /fr/contact_us.html.
Currently I cold only achieve that (in CoolURI) by configuring static
mapping. If I want paths to be auto-generated from aliases (page
titles are most likely in the current language), I have to live with
different aliases for the different languages.
Is there any chance that the uniqueness of aliases could be made
optional? Or is this already the case and I'm just unaware? Or maybe
there are reasons why this couldn't be done?

Cheers,
Christian
