[TYPO3-dev] CGL for DB access in extesions

Hi,

the kickstarter produces example code that makes usage of
$this->internal or $this->cObj->currentRecord

I myself never used this and prefer pi_getRecord for single record or 
calling DB-API direct.

So my question: what is the recommended way, is above technique something 
outdated or is it only a question of personal taste?
What should the kickstarter use, because this will be a template for many 
newbies?
