[TYPO3-dev] config.baseURL and section links: page needs to be reloaded because of hardcoded base element?

Dear folks,

I am not sure whether this is a bug or some kind of feature I cannot 
figure out.
If you use either realurl or cooluri you have to configure config.baseURL.
If config.baseURL is set a base element is created in your head. That 
one is hardcoded, and therefore all your section links will have to 
reload the page. Am I right so far?

If so, I would like to know whether this base element is needed for 
anything? If not, can we then please get rid it asap? What is the point 
of setting to top links or a section index menu if the page gets 
reloaded? The way it is now you are stuck between a rock and a hard 
place. Either you have readable urls or you have a decent inner page 
navigation :-(((
