Eclipse rulez!!! Although not everybody would agree.
I have 4GB of memory in my dev system... Not only because Eclipse
is memory hungry.. but also the databases, web-browsers etc...

You don't need much... use PDT as a debugger/php tool

I create one workspace for many projects. This so I don't have to
switch.
I only create multiple workspaces to separate between private and
customer projects.
other people 'could' make a separate workspace for each client. But
this is not really needed.

USe SVn when you can, subclipse is quite good.

I link-in TYPO3/PHP projects rather then copy them to my workspace.

should be fine using two seperate computers.
I have it all on my iMac though...
