[TYPO3-dev] Check of users permissions

Hey folks,
I'm searching for an predefined function checking if the current user 
may have the right to do something.
In a record their are feuser groups defined. A simple check if the user 
is in the listed groups does not fullfill the requirements since in the 
be might be selected a group such as "company" but the user is only in 
group "departement 1" which is a subgroup of company.

So, is there a function checking this for me, or do I have to build up 
manually the "group tree/list" and check weather any of this groups 
fullfills the requirements.
