i had already installed eAccelerator and changed my.cnf settings based 
on this article

i am not sure if i have activated mysql query cache but i'll make sure 
i'll check that out.

anyways, while i was surfing around for a solution i found the 
fl_staticfilecache 
(http://typo3.org/documentation/document-library/extension-manuals/fl_staticfilecache/0.1.7/view/toc/0/) 
extension which did wonders. Back to 620 requests per second... and i 
manage it from typo3, if i have any problems with this extension i will 
try apache's proxy.
