Does the webserver has sufficient rights to execute GS? Does GS has 
sufficient rights to write the thumbs?

Hint for IIS 6.0: GS (and other external programs) will run as the 
user/group of application pool (eg "network services" or "IWAM_<machine 
name>") that IIS runs in.
