[TYPO3-dev] Using optionSplit in own extention

1) Does anyone know is there possibility to use optionSplit wrapping in
existing extentions?
F.e. I want to create output from tt_new in LIST mode
<news item>
<separator>
<news item>
<separator>
<news item>

Can I do it without extra programming?

2) And second. If I can't make first thing work maybe I can someway use
optionSplit in my own extensions? As for me, it is very useful thing when I
place lots of items in the list.
