[TYPO3-dev] sys_todos - Fundamental question

Question with the hope that a developer can respond.

Is sys_todos obsolete and just a support to sys_workflows (wf is dependent
on td)
or is it still functional
	(and has possibly just a bug as reported here :
http://bugs.typo3.org/view.php?id=3559)

After searching the web for several days I am still unable to get the
sys_todos working.
  From some of the statements I found on the web I get the impression that
the sys_todos is 'dead'.

Background:
The sys_todos functionality is sufficient for my purpose. Workflow is not
needed.
My problem is the same as reported in the bug report above.
Is ther a manual for sys_todos somewhere (was unable to find one till
now). Even an old copy is ok.

T3 4.0
sys_todos 2.1.0
sys_note 1.1.2
sys_workflows 2.5.1 (when tested)
