EXPLAIN is only a guess. It is not authorative and depends on the
current state of the database, number of records, "ANALYZE" status, etc.
I wouldn't trust it much. It gives good hints but nothing more.
Sometimes "USE INDEX" helps to increase performance a lot but it makes
SQL non portable...
