I agree with you that the default BE interface is partilly messy and
confusing. But BE interface can be simplified. It is *not* deemed to be
too confusing. In that issue I disagree with you.

I have not used 4.0 and I don't know differencies between workspaces in BE.
It is certaily sense having different kind of BE interfaces.
But I don't see any sence having remarkable different FE interfaces.
It is possible to build quite easy FE interface for everyone.

in FE admin panel only for admins. You can setup everything else using
EDITPANEL objects. Endeed standard options are not fully satisfactory
but I have extended some of them. It is possible to build well-working
FE editing for the standard page module and fair working FE interface
for TemplaVoila.
