well, I'm just curious, but ... how would you handle uploaded extensions if
both sites store them completely differently? And synchronize the frontend
users? 

Seriously, there was no realistic way to have both sites running at the same
time and even switching back after new extensions have been uploaded and
new users have been registered is no option.
