I do not know why others use typo3 but I use it because it is a right
thing for doing CMS-related tasks :) I use Smarty for other projects and
it does very well there.

Comparing Smarty to typo3 is wrong. Smarty is templating engine, typo3
is a CMS. They cannot be compared. You would not compare apple with
space ship, right? Same here.

It is simply a question of using right tools for specific tasks. Typo3
for CMS, Smarty - if you do not need CMS but still need templates.
