Well, they're complementary subjects, and each is an important
consideration when thinking about the other. A beautiful, but
impossible to understand interface would be an hci failure, but a
well-thought-out hci may be successful in multiple designs (different
skins, for example...) As soon as you start discussing design in
combination with user-experience, you're within the realm of hci. But
obviously, there is more to design than just hci and more to hci than
just design :)
