[TYPO3-dev] Showing/editing MM-relations in both records

Hello everyone,
 
I have two records, category and item, which I've linked with an MM
relation (using the kickstarter). Now I want to be able to see which
categories an item belongs to(and add/remove categories) when editting
an item, but I also want to see what items are in a category (and
add/remove items) when editting a category. Since TYPO3 always sees
uid_local as belonging to the record you're editing, this does not seem
to be possible.
 
Am I right in this? If so, wouldn't it be an idea to change this (by,
for example, not using uid_local and uid_foreign, but uid_category and
uid_item in my case)?
