hi Johnny,

thanks for your response and the link to the API documtation!
i always used the api doc from the extdeveval extension which may be not
 that up-to-date. i stumbled over it by myself yesterday, when looking
at the sources ... its GLOBALS['TSFE']->additionalJavaScript[] which is
an array, not a function.
It works fine, but unfortunately it is not mentioned in any
documentation  i've seen before, which makes it hard to find, if you
don't know it.
