[TYPO3-dev] Debugging FE login

Hi,
I'm having some difficulties with FE user login. As far as I can see,
everything is correct but still my FE users cannot log in. The only reply
about this I got on typo3.german was from somebody who had the same
problem. Now I'm trying to somehow debug the whole thing but don't really
know how to do that. I've found out that coming from "Show" in the BE the
login process works fine. However, in the FE nothing happens even if
somebody is logged in in the BE. Every time I try, a session is created
in fe_sessions but the user is not considered logged in. I enabled
debugging in localconf.php but it doesn't display anything about. I found
a post somewhere on an archive on the internet where there was a
description of a site with domain records where this (fe_sessions entry
but not logged in) sometimes happened when the user was locked to another
domain. However, for me it doesn't seem to have to do with domain
records. So even if I wrote a siple extension now that checked only for
the log in status and displays it, I'd probably not find out more. Are
there any suggestions on how you would debug this?
