??? - Update from 3.8.1 to 4.0 on my dedicated server took me about 2
minutes.
Update from 3.5 to 4.0 on a shared 1&1 account took me some minutes more,
since I had to install GM static files and some additional stuff.
If a newbie is not even able to install TYPO3 using the install tool, maybe
he should reconsider his personal abilities and try something more adequate.
It took me another 10 minutes to download some extensions to my local
harddisk and upload them with the EM.

You already named it:
It's a professional tool that should be used in a professional environment
which you simply can't get for the equivalent of a package of cigarettes.
But still you can get free testaccounts at typo3server.com and if you
haven't got much money you can get a working installation for 9,90? or even
less.
So where's the big problem?
BTW: If someone gives you a tractor trailer for free, would you complain
that it doesn't fit into your carport?
Maybe it's time to expand the carport or find a cheap parking garage.
On the other hand you might want to get an appropriate car.
