Franz,
> It's almost not useable on shared hosts anymore and causes work overhead which really sucks.
I think you are somewhat right. Overall for the past 4 releases that
I've witnessed (3.6, 3.7. 3.8 and 4.0) TYPO3 is becoming less and less
something a newbie can install and try out in a shared environment (or
even a dedicated server) without applying more and more elbow greese
with each particular release.
This frustrated me a lot for a long time, but as I am almost sure
right now that this problem isn't a priority for core dev. team I
thought "why should it be MY priority either?". I've got all dedicated
servers I want to run TYPO3 on for work, and if I can't use it on my
personal shared accounts at 1&1 - too damn bad, it took me less time
to get WordPress running and configured for what I need there than
just to get TYPO3 working. Note that I've been around TYPO3 for a
while and that was my first experience with WordPress.
All in all, great professional tool, but not for somebody who wants to
just try it out for fun on a $5/mo. shared account. If it was a Boeing
747 before, now you not only have to fuel it yourself but put the
wings and body together;)))
Maybe this WAS the idea - what are everybody's thoughts on this?
