[TYPO3-dev] TS and get/post?

Hi all,
hope to don't bother with newbie questions...
Can I read a value from the POST/GET array in TS?
To ask the same question in another way: in order to look into the 
database with a query containing a LIKE statement and a value submitted 
by the end-user, is PHP the only way or could I also read the value from 
TS and then use the familiar content element?
