[TYPO3-dev] Question about URL parsing in index.php

Hi,

Someone is having trouble with one of my extensions, which includes 
static typoscript to create a typenum 761 on every page. It is an 
XML-RPC service.

He's claimed that going to http://domain.com/index.php?type=761 gives 
him a 404 (not sure if it's Apache or TYPO3 forcing the error) but he's 
able to get to it with either index.php?id=1&type=761 or (the slightly 
invalid) index.php?&type=761.

Can anyone explain this behaviour? He's the only one that's reported a 
problem like this.
