But there is a big difference between a rewrite of stuff that is going on
"behind the scenes" and kicking things that are used by non programmers to
configure the system.
You can improve the functions that are triggered by the TypoScript
parameters and maybe you can improve consistency and syntax.
For the user it will be still the same to call stdWrap functions, but the
performance will be improved.

A "rewrite" has nothing to do with a complete change of features.
IMHO it's about rewriting the code while keeping most of the features as is.
The goal is to get a better working TYPO3 not a completely different TYPO3!
