will that bug (BUG:0002615 ) be fixed in 4.0 ?
typo3 is alwas working hard to keep backward compatibility but that
problem will break a lot of small installations.
the new em is an important step forward and of course the memory limit
is no problem on dedicated servers but many installations are running on
dedicated hosts (i personally think the most typo3 sites are running on
shared servers) and with that behavior it's not easy for them to upgrade
the insallation. on the long run that will result in many
installtions wich are never upgrades (secutrity problems) and that is
not good for the reputation of typo.
i'm working around the problem with downloading the extensions manually
and upload to the em directly but thats not a real solution. especially
for people who hardly know how to use the EM. its also not easy to see
wich installed extension is already out of date.
since the mechanism of partly downloading is already working with the
translations i think it could be implemented on the extension side too.
another point is that the list of extensions is still growing. and if no
mechanism is implemented to handle an unknown number of extensions even
servers wich are working today may run into problems with a bigger list
of extensions one day.
i just wanted to put some attenion on this issue.
regards Martin
