I'm very interested in this refactoring talk at TYCON by Robert and 
maybe this refactoring approach has some advantages I can't see yet, but 
I really think it's the sum of reasons for a rewrite, that would make it 
much more painless than doing this step-by-step.

Just another idea: I thought about some general concepts on data-storage 
on top of (maybe) JSR-170 (which I have not yet read completely) which 
could then be implemented in different programming languages, so it 
would be possible to have a php-, java- or ruby- TYPO3 UI...

Maybe this A-Group thing could be reactivated for some more ideas and 
proof-of-concepts on this.
