I don't think that XML would produce perfomance overhead comparing TS. 
While TS needs to be parsed on PHP Level, PHP provides functions to 
parse XML on C level, which I expect to be more performant.

There isn't anything to learn how to write TS. But there is a lot to 
learn about all the objects and configurations you can use, all the 
stuff of TSRef. If you would use XML, it would be just the same amount 
to learn. That can't be the point. People that can't do it in TS 
wouldn't be able to do it in XML I think.
