Imho JSR-170 is a really good and future-proof concept and it would be
very nice to support in TYPO3. It is quite a big deal of work though imho.

I haven't seen very much from the Schotte-team but they once started to
add their (PHP-)implementation as a contribution to the jackrabbit
(JAVA) project. Their project-page however seems to show no activity:
